The story in one page
Foreign investors have sold Indian equities for ten weeks in a row, about Rs 51,466 Crore in October. The Nifty 50 finished the week near 22,600 because domestic institutions bought Rs 59,110 Crore over the same stretch. The Nifty fell 2.4% in the week, the Bank Nifty 2.8%, the Midcap 100 5.6% and the Smallcap 100 7.3%.
Three forces are at work: Brent around $100, the RBI’s 25 bps hike to 5.50% in October with a calibrated-tightening stance, and US 10-year yields near 5%. The record Rs 30,213 Crore Jio Platforms IPO, subscribed 22.19 times and listing on 28 October, is a test of domestic liquidity.
